Enduring Song

Writer/Director Jesse Briton • Designer Buddug James Jones • Musical Director Max Macintosh • Lighting Designer Seth Rook-Willliams • Producer Lindsay Fraser

France. 1096. Matthew, a young French Knight, sets out on the First Crusade. Behind him he leaves a broken family, a crumbling ancestral farm, and a teenage sister who must save it all from ruin. From the fields of France to the Churches of Antioch and the Siege of Jerusalem, Enduring Song is an historical epic about love, hope and family.

A scratch performance of Enduring Song was first performed at Ovalhouse in 2011 as part of the 33% London Festival, a festival of work by young London based artists. Further development took place at Bristol Old Vic in 2012, including another work-in-progress performance as part of their July Ferment season. In 2013 a production was workshopped at East 15 Acting School with this year BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre Students, culminating in a limited number of public performances. The play had its world premiere at Southwark Playhouse in 2014.

Enduring Song is published in the UK by Faber and Faber and is available here.
